What now?

You may be wondering what the heck I am doing with this blog.

I have been too, then it suddenly hit me.

Why not use it to enhance learning of English as a Foreign Language?

Why not make a tool to improve Business English for aspiring professionals seeking to globalize the Korean market?

Why not expand Java, iPhone, and Google programming know-how to young coders hoping to port Korean talents to the world?

Here it goes:

I first got the idea for this blog seeing as how so many others have theirs, talking about their day. Let me tell you about mine:

Today was my worst class. I mean the snotty, rotten know-it-all kids. You know the ones. I was apprehensive but the previous days had been unusual- kids were involved in the work. It was a weird and frightening development.

My baddest of the bad, class 5-10, was coming in. Some kids had been fighting, a bully punched a kid half his size. I didn't see it, or I would have eaten his head. Anyway, they took their seats (well after the bell) and we had our song. As usual, no one sang. The powerpoint came on and they were all laughs. Even the cowardly bully was into it. Thanks to Senorgif all the kids could enjoy it- the smart alecky ones and the illiterate ones all laughing together. Moments like this make the day breeze by.

English language learning has to be fun and easy. Same goes for marketing, and programming. Obviously, everything can't be fun and easy, but boring never wins. People that give up do boring. People without passion are dull. Today I gained from my students an idea. I want to help EFL teachers that are passionate become better teachers- not that they would need my help with passion, but to share resources, ideas, stories, and encouragement to make the education system in Korea better. Later, the world!

Welcome to Apple Bear

Yeah. That's my name, the Apple Bear.
South Korea is home for the moment. While here, I teach English at an elementary school in Ilsan north west of Seoul. Lets start with my area:

My school is near Ilsan station, which is a new subway on the Gyeongui Line which goes from Seoul to Munsan (practically North Korea). It is cheap and fast, however it doesn't run very often.

Afterschool I practice Hapkido. No I am not good. I'm the slowest one in class, and I like it that way. Not to say I don't try, but my body is gettin old. Its a push to just keep up with class. No quitting!

On my downtime there is one place which is always on my mind, Insadong and the movie theatre Seoul Cinematheque. I've been there several times and the films never disappoint. They aren't always easy to watch, but its guaranteed you remember what you saw.

In the near future I hope to relearn the programming language Java, and give commentary on books which I have read.
